Agility is a signatory of the UN Global Compact
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Agility contributes to several SDGs across a number of our sustainability activities.
How Agility Contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals
Poverty is widespread across the world. Agility’s community investments program allows employees to tackle poverty issues that are close to home. Agility also provides help directly to communities impacted by disasters, and is one of 4 logistics leaders that make up the Logistics Emergency Team, a humanitarian response partnership with the World Food Programme.
Agility’s community investments program supports teacher training, school building and facility improvements to enable students, to access quality education in emerging markets. We have an ambitious target to make a measurable contribution to the education of 5,000 students each year by 2025, with 50% of those being girls.
At Agility, we work to ensure women have equal opportunities for leadership and advancement.
Agility actively investigates how to improve the energy efficiency of our operations, and seeks to launch pilot investments in renewable energy sourcing and generation, where feasible for our business. We also support start-ups championing new energy solutions for the supply chain.
The Agility Fair Labor program sets a high standard for human rights practice, including a strict policy prohibiting recruitment fees and setting strict rules to prevent exploitation of our workforce, including employees hired by 3rd parties. In this way, Agility contributes to the UN target to end modern slavery and child labor by 2025, to protect labor rights, and promote safe and secure working environments.
Agility supports emerging market competitiveness by building world-class industrial infrastructure across the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Agility invests in innovation. Our digital logistics company, Shipa, empowers small and medium-sized businesses to be part of the global economy by enabling them to bring their logistics online.
Across over 100 countries, we work to reduce our emissions through good data management, behavior change and investing in sustainable warehousing and freight technologies. In our supply chain, we work with carriers and suppliers in partnership to reduce emissions on shared shipments, as well as participating in industry platforms to advocate for climate-smart policies. We provide our customers with monthly emissions reports and offer green solutions to help customers reduce their emissions and waste.
More from Responsible Business
Strengthening logistics infrastructure and services in emerging markets is essential for an equitable world. Many of Agility’s core markets suffer with massive shortfalls in infrastructure, particularly for transport and communications, restraining economic growth. The United Nations calculates that infrastructure constraints could affect firm productivity growth by about 40%. For Agility, this is a golden opportunity to grow responsibly.
Small & Medium Enterprises
Achieving global prosperity requires inclusive supply chains, in which all businesses, regardless of size and geography, have access to affordable, high quality logistics services. Identifying and responding to the needs of SMEs in all markets is integral to Agility’s business strategy.
